The Topography of Fiber
The Strata Series is an exploration of depth, density, and the architectural accumulation of form. Inspired by the rhythmic layering found in paper sculpture, these works translate two-dimensional composition into three-dimensional textile relief.
The technical complexity of Strata lies in the interplay between varied structural densities. Each work is composed of several independent panels, each featuring a distinct textile logic — ranging from the rhythmic structure of weaving to the dense, sculptural knots of macramé. These individual "strata" are meticulously layered, creating a singular abstract composition that shifts and evolves as the viewer moves around the piece.
Framed in-house using the studio’s signature weaving frames, the series moves the textile medium away from the wall and into the room. By treating fiber as a sculptural material capable of casting shadows and defining space, Strata captures a sense of geological time and intentional growth. It is a study of how disparate patterns and textures, when stacked with precision, create a unified and complex whole.
