what stays
HANDCOILED & STICHED ARTWORK
January 2026
“What Stays” is a textile work built through pressure, repetition, and restraint. Thick rope was coiled by hand to form rigid, continuous lines, then stitched onto a black surface prepared with India ink. The process was slow and physical, focused on holding form and tension rather than letting it dissolve.
The composition is reduced to essentials: line, surface, and contrast. The dark ground absorbs light, allowing the coiled structure to assert its presence quietly but firmly. Each stitch fixes the rope in place, reinforcing a sense of intention and permanence.
There is no ornament here, only accumulation. The work holds weight — both material and visual — and speaks to what remains when movement is stripped back, when softness gives way to structure.
“What Stays” reflects endurance and grounding: the elements that persist, the forms that hold, and the marks that do not disappear with time.
