while the world kept moving
A quiet tapestry about pace, presence, and making with intention.
There are pieces that arrive fully formed in your mind, and there are pieces that reveal themselves slowly. One touch, one row, one decision at a time.
This work belongs to the second kind.
I began weaving it without sketches or plans. No map, no rush. Just the loom, the cotton ropes, and a quiet urge to move my hands until things felt steady again. Some works ask you to think your way through them. This one asked for presence first.
After some weaving (and a few patient moments of taking it all apart to start again), the direction began to take shape. Only then did I sit down with paper and pencil to work out the structure, a small bit of maths and quiet planning to map out how I wanted the texture to graduate and settle. The simplicity you see is supported by those small calculations behind the scenes.
Chunky natural cotton, layered gently, becomes a soft gradient that shifts with the light as the day goes by. A tight woven field meets a long, relaxed fringe, a contrast that brings both grounding and breath. The weight of the fibers reveals itself as you approach, and the movement of the fringe softens it again. Solid and soft. Still and alive. Firm and quiet. A small meditation hanging from an oak dowel.
It wasn't technically complex. But it required listening. Patience. And moving between intuition and structure until it felt right. For showing up in little pockets of time, even on days when the world felt fast and loud.
And maybe that’s what this piece holds most:
The reminder that slowness still has a place.
That small, steady gestures build something real.
That calm can be chosen, even when life keeps moving.
Handwoven in natural cotton. One of a kind. Made in stillness, while the world kept moving…
about the technique & materials
Woven by hand in natural cotton fibers
Mounted on an oak dowel
Approximately 90cm wide × 94cm tall
Built gradually over quiet studio sessions
The use of chunky fiber gives the tapestry physical presence. Weight that translates into visual softness. Every section was woven by a mix of feel and plan, following texture and pattern.
a note on slowness
Slowness isn’t the absence of progress, it’s a way of being in the work.
This tapestry is a gentle record of time passing in the studio. Of pauses. Of exhale. Of letting the hands think and the mind rest.
It's an invitation to see and feel texture as rhythm.
