The Intuitive Thread

— The Journey of Hope 004 —

There is a profound beauty in the way art connects us across continents. It often begins with a single image — a moment captured in a portfolio that resonates with someone’s personal aesthetic. For a wonderful couple in Australia, that moment was Hope 002.

They were drawn to its intuitive flow and textured soul, but they envisioned it on a different scale for their home. This request invited me back into a signature style I hold very dear: a freeform, intuitive macramé technique that feels like a conversation between my hands and the fiber.

An Evolution of Style

Returning to the Hope series for this commission felt like visiting an old friend. While the foundation of the work is rooted in my signature technique, every piece in this series is entirely unique. It is a process that relies on intuition rather than a rigid pattern — a rhythmic dance where the knots themselves dictate the next move.

To ensure the piece felt truly bespoke, we started at the very core: the material. I worked with my suppliers to custom-manufacture a specific, heavy cotton cord that provides the exact plushness and structural presence this series requires.

The Art of the Long Thread

In the Atelier, "bespoke" is a physical commitment. To create the seamless, flowing transitions that define Hope 004, I worked with individual cord lengths of 10 meters each.

There is a meditative, almost athletic challenge in managing dozens of these long fibers at my feet. As I tied thousands of individual knots, the studio became a sea of cotton, with each movement requiring intention and focus. This isn't just about "making"; it’s about guiding nearly three kilometers of fiber into a compact, 70x85cm window of texture.

A Shared Vision Across the Miles

Distance never means disconnection. Throughout the days of knotting, I shared progress photos with the clients in Australia. This is one of my favourite parts of the commissioning process — inviting the collector into the studio "virtually" so they can watch their artwork grow.

Seeing the texture build and the organic effects take shape allowed us to ensure the final piece felt exactly as they had envisioned it: a curated, intentional addition to their home.

Your Own Story in Fiber

Hope 004 is now beginning its life in Australia, but the door to the Atelier is always open for the next journey.

Commissioning a piece of art is a collaborative experience. Whether you are drawn to the intuitive flow of the Hope series or have a completely new architectural challenge for your walls, the process is the same: we start with a vision, select the finest materials, and weave a piece of art that belongs specifically to you.

Hope 004, finally at home in its curated space in Australia. A perfect dialogue between the architecture of the room and the organic flow of the fiber.
